Polk County Jail Overview

Polk County Jail is operated by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The official jail overview says the facility was completed in August 1999, has capacity for 195 inmates, and provides pretrial detention services for criminal justice agencies in Polk County while also serving as the place where court-imposed local sentences are served. The jail operates under federal law, Oregon statutes, and Oregon Jail Standards.

The jail is the only facility in the project Facility Map. No separate state prison, federal prison, ICE detention center, or regional jail physically located in Polk County was found in the official source review. The jail still handles a mixed local custody population because the roster can show municipal arrests, sheriff arrests, probation or post-prison sanctions, other-county holds, DOC-related holds, and U.S. Marshals Service holds.

Look Up Polk County Jail Inmates

Use the Polk County Inmates In Custody gateway and the linked JDS roster for current jail custody. The public roster is not a search form. It is a time-stamped table grouped by male and female sections. Use browser find by last name, then read the row details. If a person does not appear, the county says the person may not have been processed yet, but the person may also be in Marion County Jail, ODOC custody, federal custody, ICE custody, or another county's jail.

  1. Open the Polk County Inmates In Custody gateway.
  2. Agree to the county statements and open the JDS roster.
  3. Check the Run Date/Time so the custody record is not mistaken for an older list.
  4. Use browser find for the last name and review Jail ID, House, Charges, Court, bail, book date, and next court date.
  5. Call 503-623-9254 or use OOS, BOP, ICE, or court records when the roster does not resolve the location.

Polk County Jail Record Fields

The roster field list is important because visiting, court lookup, bail confirmation, and records requests all depend on the details in the row. The House field helps choose a visitation window. The Court field tells whether the matter is Polk Circuit Court, a municipal court, another county, state supervision, or federal authority. The Photo field is present but blank because Polk County removed public roster photos after HB 3273.

Mail Books at Polk County Jail

Ordinary inmate mail is processed through TextBehind and delivered digitally to tablets. The inmate manual gives the scanned-mail address as Polk County Jail, OR; Inmate Name; 5 digit Number; P.O. Box 247; Phoenix, MD 21131. Original mail is destroyed within 60 days unless TextBehind is contacted, so do not send sentimental or valuable originals. Legal or official mail goes to the jail address only when properly labeled and verifiable.

The jail no longer accepts paperback books from the public. Books must come directly from the publisher, and books from Amazon are not accepted. Inmates can possess only four non-religious paperback books at a time. Religious books are handled through the jail request process.

The mail and books page documents TextBehind, publisher-only book rules, and the warning against using the physical jail address for ordinary mail.

Booking Intake at Polk County Jail

Booking creates the jail custody record. The person is identified, screened, assigned or updated with identifiers, and classified for housing. The inmate manual discusses orientation, property and rule expectations, classification, administrative segregation, disciplinary segregation, request forms, medical care, grievances, food service, tablets, commissary, mail, legal mail, and PREA. The public roster shows only part of that process.

A booking charge should not be treated as the final court charge. The Polk County Circuit Court Criminal Division processes criminal cases in the jail building across from the courthouse, and the District Attorney's Office decides how charges are prosecuted. Use the roster for immediate custody and court records after a jail arrest for formal filed charges.
