Polk County Jail is operated by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The official jail overview says the facility was completed in August 1999, has capacity for 195 inmates, and provides pretrial detention services for criminal justice agencies in Polk County while also serving as the place where court-imposed local sentences are served. The jail operates under federal law, Oregon statutes, and Oregon Jail Standards.

The jail is the only facility in the project Facility Map. No separate state prison, federal prison, ICE detention center, or regional jail physically located in Polk County was found in the official source review. The jail still handles a mixed local custody population because the roster can show municipal arrests, sheriff arrests, probation or post-prison sanctions, other-county holds, DOC-related holds, and U.S. Marshals Service holds.

The official jail location page lists the public jail location as 884 SE Jefferson Street, Dallas, OR 97338. The Sheriff's Office and county-office public address is 850 Main Street, Dallas, OR 97338. Those addresses should not be swapped for mail. The jail location page says inmate mail is not accepted at the physical jail location and will be returned.

Who Polk County Jail Holds

Polk County Jail Record Fields

The roster field list is important because visiting, court lookup, bail confirmation, and records requests all depend on the details in the row. The House field helps choose a visitation window. The Court field tells whether the matter is Polk Circuit Court, a municipal court, another county, state supervision, or federal authority. The Photo field is present but blank because Polk County removed public roster photos after HB 3273.

Visiting Polk County Jail

Polk County Jail visits are scheduled by housing assignment and gender. Each inmate can have two one-half-hour visits per week. Picture identification is required, visitors are subject to search, children under 18 are not allowed, visits are non-contact, and bags or purses must stay outside the visitation area. Booking visits are by appointment only on Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.; call 503-623-9254.

Mail Books at Polk County Jail

Box 247; Phoenix, MD 21131. Original mail is destroyed within 60 days unless TextBehind is contacted, so do not send sentimental or valuable originals. Most inmates have phone access from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Calls are collect only, incoming calls are not accepted, and personal calls are recorded and monitored. Messages are accepted only for verified emergencies. The phone and account vendor is ViaPath/GettingOut, and the FAQ lists ViaPath at 866-516-0115.

Booking Intake at Polk County Jail

Booking creates the jail custody record. The person is identified, screened, assigned or updated with identifiers, and classified for housing. The inmate manual discusses orientation, property and rule expectations, classification, administrative segregation, disciplinary segregation, request forms, medical care, grievances, food service, tablets, commissary, mail, legal mail, and PREA. The public roster shows only part of that process.

A booking charge should not be treated as the final court charge. The Polk County Circuit Court Criminal Division processes criminal cases in the jail building across from the courthouse, and the District Attorney's Office decides how charges are prosecuted. Directions Transit to Polk County Jail

The jail is in central Dallas near the courthouse and county-office campus. From Salem or West Salem, use OR-22 west toward Dallas, then follow local streets toward SE Jefferson Street. From Independence and Monmouth, use OR-51 or OR-99W area routes toward Dallas. From the north or Yamhill County side, use OR-99W or OR-22-area approaches. Public transit is available through Cherriots Route 40X between Dallas and Salem and Route 45 between Dallas and Independence, but riders should verify current stops and service days.
